Important Update – School Closure Tomorrow
Dear Parents and Carers,
Following the issues with water supply today, we have now had communication with Thames Water to get the clearest possible information about the situation for tomorrow.
Unfortunately, Thames Water has advised us that the problem is significant and is expected to continue into tomorrow.
Thames Water has explained that the intermittent water supply some properties are currently experiencing is only because tankers are on site feeding water into the main network. This does not mean that the underlying issue has been resolved, and they cannot guarantee that this intermittent supply will continue or provide the school with sufficient water to operate safely.
Thames Water has informed us that the school is likely to remain affected and that this would be a sensible course of action.
We have therefore taken the difficult decision to close the school tomorrow.
I appreciate how disruptive a school closure is for families, particularly at short notice. However, without a reliable water supply, we cannot safely operate the school, particularly in relation to toilets, handwashing, drinking water, catering and general hygiene.
We have made this decision now, rather than waiting until tomorrow morning, because we want to give families as much notice as possible to make alternative childcare arrangements. We appreciate that this was very difficult this morning with the supply coming on and off intermittently.
Parents should therefore plan on the basis that the school will be closed tomorrow. However, if there is a significant change overnight – for example, if Thames Water confirms that a reliable water supply has been restored or that a dedicated tanker can be provided – we will review the decision and open the school if it is safe and practical to do so. We will communicate any change as early as possible tomorrow morning.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and liaise directly with Thames Water. Of course, you can track any updates with Thames Water online or contact them directly.
